CBD for
Dog Anxiety

Simple choices. Happier dogs.

Top picks for dog anxiety

If your veterinarian approves a calming supplement, these are the hemp-based products worth discussing. Clear, honest information to support safer choices and a calmer, happier life.

These are hemp-based calming supplements. None of them states a measured CBD amount, so the research caveats in our guides apply: research from 2023, 2024 and 2025 has produced mixed results, and no supplement is a proven cure for canine anxiety.

Most popular format

Hemp calming chews with melatonin

Advanced Calming Chews for Dogs

Best for
Evening stress, travel and separation, and dogs that settle better with a sleep aid
Format
Soft chew
Strength
Hemp and melatonin blend; check the label for the amount per chew

Why it makes the list: A hemp-based chew that pairs hemp with melatonin and other calming botanicals, in one of the most widely reviewed formats for anxious dogs.

The limit: Melatonin adds a sedative effect, so this is not the pick for daytime calm, and the label does not state a CBD amount.

Best for adjustable amounts

Hemp oil drops

Billion Pets Hemp Oil for Dogs and Cats

Best for
Owners who want to adjust the amount drop by drop, and dogs that take oil in food
Format
Oil, dropper
Strength
Dropper bottle; check mg per mL on the label

Why it makes the list: A liquid lets you start small and adjust more finely than a fixed chew, and it mixes into a spoonful of food for dogs that refuse treats.

The limit: Marketed for dogs and cats with broad claims, so judge it on the ingredient list and testing rather than the promises.

Best for travel and storms

Calming chews from an established supplement brand

NaturVet Quiet Moments Calming Plus Hemp

Best for
Storm anxiety, travel and motion sickness
Format
Soft chew
Strength
180 soft chews per tub

Why it makes the list: NaturVet is a long-established pet supplement maker, and Quiet Moments is sold specifically for storms, travel and motion sickness.

The limit: Hemp is one ingredient among several, so you are buying the blend rather than a measured CBD product.

Short-ingredient air-dried chews

Native Pet Calming Chews for Dogs

Best for
Dogs with sensitive stomachs and owners who want a short ingredient list
Format
Air-dried chew
Strength
30 air-dried chews

Why it makes the list: Hemp seed, melatonin, L-theanine and casein with a short, readable ingredient list, which makes it easier to spot anything your dog has reacted to before.

The limit: A small tub, so the price per chew is higher than the bulk options.

Best for big dogs

High-strength hemp calming chews

Colorado Dog Company Hemp Calming Chews

Best for
Larger dogs, and owners who want a stated amount per chew
Format
Soft chew
Strength
350 mg hemp per chew, 120 count

Why it makes the list: States an amount per chew on the label, which most calming chews do not, and is made in the USA.

The limit: The 350 mg is hemp, not CBD, and a high amount per chew is harder to scale down for small dogs.

Bulk hemp calming chews

Hemp Calming Chews for Dogs, 240 treats

Best for
Multi-dog homes and daily use
Format
Soft chew
Strength
240 chews per tub

Why it makes the list: The same hemp-and-melatonin style of formula in a larger tub, which brings the cost per chew down if your vet has agreed to daily use.

The limit: Melatonin again, so it suits evening and bedtime calm better than daytime training sessions.

For stiff senior dogs

Hemp joint support, not a calming chew

Only Natural Pet Hemp Hip & Joint Chews

Best for
Older dogs whose night-time restlessness comes from stiff joints rather than fear
Format
Soft chew
Strength
120 soft chews with glucosamine and MSM

Why it makes the list: Night-time pacing in senior dogs is often pain rather than anxiety. This chew targets the joints with glucosamine and MSM alongside hemp.

The limit: It is a joint supplement. Do not expect a calming effect for a dog whose problem is fear.

How to choose a safer CBD product for a dog

If your veterinarian agrees that a CBD trial is reasonable, look for the following.

  1. 1

An exact CBD amount on the label.

The label should state the milligrams of CBD per milliliter, capsule or chew. “Hemp oil” alone does not show how much cannabidiol the product contains.

  2. 2

A current, batch-specific certificate of analysis.

The report should confirm cannabinoid concentrations and test for THC, heavy metals, pesticides, microbes and residual solvents.

  3. 3

    Non-detectable or clearly disclosed THC.

Do not assume that a hemp-derived product contains no THC. Dogs can develop serious adverse effects after cannabis exposure.

  4. 4

    A formula made for dogs.

Avoid human CBD gummies, products with unknown ingredients and anything that contains ingredients unsafe for dogs.

  5. 5

    Formal quality controls.

The NASC Quality Seal indicates that a company has passed an independent audit and participates in independent product testing. It does not show that CBD treats anxiety.

  6. 6

Veterinary review of the ingredients and medication history.

CBD can interact with other medications. Veterinary review matters most when a dog takes seizure medication, sedatives, pain medication or drugs processed by the liver.
